Hunter Marckwald

After graduating from law school, Hunter Marckwald worked at Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson in Miami, Florida in the litigation department supporting a nationwide class action team which recovered over $1 Billion.  Hunter personally managed over 1,000 claimant files worth in excess of $150 Million.  After several years, family brought him to Cincinnati, Ohio where he was an associate in the General Commercial, Business, Fiduciary, and Specialty Litigation Departments at Dinsmore & Shohl.  At Dinsmore, Hunter handled cases in state and federal courts, the Ohio Court of Claims, and in arbitration proceedings.  He represented clients in all aspects of commercial litigation including contract, construction, tort, warranty cases and shareholder disputes.  Industries represented included energy companies, construction firms, commercial printing companies, banks and developers.  He also provided pro bono representation for the Volunteer Lawyers Project.

In 2010, Hunter re-joined Stearns Weaver Miller as an associate in the Litigation Department. For the next two years, Hunter litigated cases in state and federal courts throughout Florida. He represented clients in all aspects of commercial litigation including shareholder disputes, contract, construction, tort and warranty cases. Industries represented included hotels and hospitality, sports franchises, condominiums, developers, banks and pharmaceutical companies.

In 2012, Hunter joined Western Refining, Inc., a Fortune 250 company in the oil and gas industry as Associate General Counsel.  Based in Tempe, Arizona, Hunter initially managed the company’s litigation portfolio across numerous business units including refining, pipeline, wholesale, retail and tax.  His litigation oversight included contract disputes, property damages, business interruption losses, insurance coverage disputes, personally injury cases, transportation incidents and shareholder class actions.  He also served as a member of the Enterprise Risk and Compliance Committee.  Over the next five and a half years, and through a series of IPO’s and acquisitions, Hunter served Western Refining, Western Refining Logistics, LP, Northern Tier Energy LP and Andeavor (now Marathon) as Associate General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel & Assistant Secretary.  In addition to his litigation duties, Hunter managed regulatory matters involving the Environmental Protection Agency, Internal Revenue Service, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Federal Railroad Administration, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management and other state and local agencies.  He also assisted in mergers & acquisitions, and oversaw corporate governance matters.  During his time in Arizona, Hunter was as a member of the Board of Directors of Child Crisis Arizona, a non-profit organization aimed at breaking the cycle of child abuse and neglect in Arizona.  In 2017, Hunter was elected Chairman of the Board.

Prior to founding Innovative Dispute Solutions, Hunter joined Delek US Holdings, Inc. and Delek Logistics Partners, LP in Brentwood, Tennessee as Vice President, Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Secretary.  At Delek, Hunter oversaw all aspects of the legal function, including securities and corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory affairs and litigation.  Working closely with the CEO and General Counsel, he also assisted in building the legal department following an acquisition that doubled the size of the company.
